Don’t trust first impressions!
Sometimes even quality films get unfair criticism and suddenly get an undeserved bad reputation. There are many reasons for this: high expectations, controversial marketing campaigns or simply a lack of understanding among viewers and critics.
However, time shows that some films, despite initial negative reviews, deserve more recognition. Our list includes 10 such films that were overshadowed by their “disgusting” reputation, although they are in fact worthy works with interesting plots and good implementation. So let’s look at them from a new perspective?

As The Secret Forest so clearly demonstrates, sometimes it’s not so much the movie as the person who made it. M. Night Shyamalan is considered the king of plot twists – yes; but not the king of quality cinema. Cinephiles are certain that The Sixth Sense is the only true cinema classic, and for some reason, all of the director’s other films are met with nothing but condescension and criticism.
Meanwhile, ‘The Secret Forest’ still found its audience: 44% isn’t the best rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but that’s hardly bad. On Kinopoisk, the film has an overall rating of 7.1, with praise for its open ending (well, this is M. Night Shyamalan, of course) and the film’s ability to scare without overtly showing anything particularly scary.
By the way, even reading the script had a similar effect: actress Sigourney Weaver admitted that she was plagued by nightmares for two weeks after reading it. So if you like good atmospheric thrillers and don’t trust public opinion, then ‘The Secret Forest’ is definitely a must-watch for you.
