A popular villain will challenge Luffy.

The first season of One Piece proved so popular that Netflix executives decided to give the second season of the adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga a much more serious budget. This allowed the producers to invite really popular actors to join the cast of the series.

Immediately after the release of the first part of the story of Luffy and his pirate crew, insiders began assuring fans that actress Jamie Lee Curtis would join the cast of the second season in the role of Doctor Kureha.

Fans were thrilled that the Oscar winner would be part of the One Piece family, but Netflix producers couldn’t convince Curtis. The actress will definitely not appear in the second season, but that doesn’t mean other popular actors didn’t accept the streaming service’s invitation.

It was recently announced that DCEU star Joe Manganiello, best known for his role as Deathstroke in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, has joined One Piece as Crocodile, one of the main villains of the upcoming second season.

In the new part of Luffy’s adventures, the pirates will face the dangerous criminal organization Barok Works, led by Crocodile.

Considering that the first season of One Piece simply didn’t feature any popular actors, Manganiello’s participation suggests one thing: Hollywood has finally realized how popular anime and manga adaptations are.

Filming for the second season has already begun and Netflix producers are confident that the series will return in the second half of 2025.
