But what if the heroes in white robes are much more boring?

Let’s face it: while it’s implied that we should root for the main characters, sometimes the ones they’re fighting are much more charismatic and attractive. To be fair, sometimes they’re just right, and the main character starts to seem funny and almost pathetic in comparison. At such times, the viewer’s sympathy shifts to the side of evil, even though we mentally understand that we would never root for such a character in real life.

But cinema isn’t real life. That’s why we’ve collected 10 movies where we (and you) will always root for the “bad guys” and not even apologize for it.

As “main characters” as the main characters are, sometimes the villains turn out to be much more memorable and appealing figures – and the films we’ve collected today are clear proof of that. For example, Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter needed less than 20 minutes of screen time to “steal” the entire film from main character Clarice – but it was also the chemistry between them that made “The Silence of the Lambs” a cult classic.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for example, villains have also become much more interesting than the main characters lately. The Loki solo series has become one of Marvel’s most successful projects for a reason; and in the new “Doctor Strange” everyone sympathized much more with the Scarlet Witch than with Doctor Strange in fact.
