Failed return of the maestro.
The director of The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, Francis Ford Coppola, has not directed a film since the disastrous horror film The Between, which was released in 2011.
And when the director announced the upcoming release of his dream project, “Megalopolis,” fans were thrilled. But Coppola’s new blockbuster already looks like the biggest failure in Hollywood history. And it hasn’t even left yet.
At the heart of the story of Megalopolis is the brilliant architect Caesar Catalina, who wants to make New Rome the center of the world. But his plans are thwarted by Mayor Franklin Cicero, who is prepared to do anything to stop his rival.

Coppola had dreamed of making this intelligent fantasy tale with references to ancient Roman literature for decades. So a whole host of Hollywood stars signed on to star in the project – Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf Jon Voight and Laurence Fishburne.
Coppola made the film entirely with his own money. He invested the entire $120 million – huge money, even by major studio standards.
But it’s unlikely the blockbuster will pay off at the box office. At the moment, Coppola’s new film has been given an “outdated” rating by American film critics Rotten Tomatoes. 51% judgement.

The film has been called incredibly outdated and fantastically boring, with some critics even admitting they couldn’t watch Megalopolis to the end.
The film is set to go into wide release on September 27 and analysts are confident that the film will fail miserably.
