“The Squid Game” was sued: was the series plagiarized from an Indian film?

An unexpected twist.

The second season of “The Squid Game” is set to air on December 26 of this year, but Netflix producers have been approached with a huge complaint.

Recently, Indian director Soham Shah filed a lawsuit against the streaming service and ‘Squid Game’ showrunner Hwang Dong-hyuk, accusing them of plagiarizing his film ‘Fortune’.

A famous Bollywood director believes Dong-hyuk stole the idea of his film and turned it into one of the most successful series in streaming history.

“The Squid Game” was sued: was the series plagiarized from an Indian film?

‘Fortune’ is about a group of losers who agree to participate in a reality show where they have to risk their lives for a cash prize of millions of dollars.

Sounds suspiciously like The Squid Game, doesn’t it?

“The basic plot, characters, themes, mood, setting, and sequence of events of The Squid Game are strikingly similar to those of Fortune, belying any possibility that such similarities could be coincidental.” — Shah said in court.

Despite the similarities between the film and the series, Netflix producers deny allegations of plagiarism and are certain that Dong-hyuk created the series without knowing Fortune.

Shah is demanding financial compensation from Netflix and a promise that the platform will no longer produce or promote new Squid projects.

The court will have to decide whether Dong-hyuk is guilty of plagiarism, but fans have already sided with the Korean director. The film “Fortune” only received 4.9 points, and “The Squid Game” 8.0 points – fans are sure that no one would steal the idea of such a failed film.
