The actor’s family members are unhappy.
About the middle film “Rogue One. Star Wars. Stories” in 2024 is not remembered even by the most devoted fans of the George Lucas franchise – the blockbuster performed well at the box office in 2016, but could not stand the test of time.
Star Wars fans have long forgotten about Rogue One , and Disney executives recently had to recall the spinoff. And not for a happy reason.
The fact is, the studio was sued over one very unethical decision: recreating the image of the late actor Peter Cushing for Rogue One.

The legendary British actor played Death Star commander Wilhuff Tarkin in A New Hope, which director Gareth Edwards decided to include in his film.
Using computer technology, Cushing, who died in 1994, was “revived” for “Rogue One.” Fans were happy to see the legendary character return, but the actor’s loved ones were shocked by Disney’s decision.
And eight years after the blockbuster’s release, the studio was sued.
Cushing’s close friend and colleague, Kevin Francis, sued Disney for illegally using the actor’s likeness — according to Francis, Cushing stated before his death that no one could use his “likeness” in future films.
The studio’s lawyers attempted to withdraw the claim, but the British court sided with Francis and initiated a process to consider the claim.

Francis demands from Disney 680 thousand dollars and who may receive it – British courts don’t like to talk about ongoing cases, so we won’t learn the details of the legal battle until after the verdict is delivered.
Cushing fans are concerned about only one inconsistency: the actor died in the early 1990s, when no one had even thought about the possibility of recreating the appearance of actors using graphics.
