Philosophical history with a criminal twist.

When the film Revolver hit theaters in 2006, Guy Ritchie fans didn’t recognize the style of their favorite director.

The crime film starring Jason Statham as former gangster Jake, who got into trouble after serving a prison sentence, reminded many of ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ and ‘Snatch’. But there was still something that confused audiences about the plot of ‘Revolver’.

In fact, Ritchie didn’t even try to replicate the form of his previous films in Revolver. His goal was quite different: to make a philosophical action film, and he handled it perfectly. But fans still can’t understand the meaning of this film.

“Revolver” is misunderstood

Most fans consider Revolver to be just another crime story, which only confuses them more. Ritchie abandoned all cause and effect relationships when he was working on the script. Our advice is to watch “Revolver” without attention to detail.

Ritchie came up with a very complicated plot and deliberately made some lines completely meaningless.

The main point of the film lies not in the development of the characters, but in one philosophical idea: a person should not allow his ego to prevail.

That’s why the film ended not with a gunfight, but with a conversation in which Jake apologizes to his enemy.

Not everything in the movie is what it seems

Some viewers noticed that Jake’s cellmates, Avi and Zach, who pushed him to commit crimes, were acting very strangely. Yeah, they didn’t think so.

Critics agreed that Avi and Zach were just a figment of Jake’s imagination, the embodiment of that same ego. Therefore, the actions of this couple should not be taken seriously – they are just a metaphor, not real gangsters.

Despite the complexity of Revolver, Russian audiences still love it. Nearly 350,000 Kinopoisk users gave it an excellent rating 7.4 points.
