New Netflix action film gets near-perfect reviews

Six years after the release of the bloody thriller Hold the Dark, director Jeremy Saulnier returns to Netflix with a new film.

Saulnier could have released Rebel Ridge last year, but the project was postponed. All because of John Boyega’s unexpected decision to leave the cast of the action film during filming.

Boyega never explained his move. However, it seems that Rebel Ridge benefited from his departure. Aaron Pierre was cast in the lead role in the project and some critics are already predicting a big future for him in Hollywood.

The story of Rebel Ridge is about the African-American Terry Richmond, who is being hunted by the police in a small town in the southern United States. The corrupt officers do not even suspect that Terry is a former marine, used to killing his opponents in the most brutal ways.

The adrenaline-pumping action film has only just hit Netflix, and fans and critics alike are already embracing Saulnier, calling ‘Rebel Ridge’ the best action movie of the past decade.

American critics gave this long-term construction a near-perfect rating: 98% “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes.

“The film is not only clever and exciting, but also well filmed, written and directed. The acting is beyond praise, especially in Pierre’s performance, who gives the film a steely tension at the right moment.” – noted critic Randy Myers.

Besides Pierre, critics also highly praise the main villain of the film: a corrupt sheriff with sadistic tendencies. Some film experts even think that Don Johnson might be nominated for a Golden Globe for his creepy performance.

Most Netflix users haven’t yet watched the film, which hit the platform on September 6, but early reviews make it clear that Rebel Ridge is definitely going to be a cult action film.
