Life is the best screenwriter.
Any fan of miniseries will easily explain to you the advantages of this format: you don’t have to spread the viewing experience over several months, but at the same time the series has much more resources to develop the story and the characters than, for example, a movie. That’s why there have been so many miniseries based on real events lately: several episodes make it possible to adapt a true story much more accurately and dramatically.
We’ve collected 10 miniseries based on real events that will grab you from the very first episode: be careful, or you won’t sleep the whole night before watching them.

The series “Chernobyl” is perhaps the most well-known of our selection. When the series first aired on HBO, it became the highest-rated series on IMDb, even surpassing Breaking Bad. “Chernobyl” can hardly be called a light series for the evening – of all the series on our list, it is perhaps based on the most horrific real events.
Many, however, praised “Chernobyl” for being as historically accurate and as attentive to detail as possible, even if many aspects of the series were artistically exaggerated. Some critics criticized the series for presenting scientists as “unambiguous heroes” and government officials as “unambiguous villains.”
Still, “Chernobyl” is definitely a brilliant HBO project that is worth watching. On Kinopoisk this series has a rating of 8.8 and a 7th place in the top 250; on Rotten Tomatoes – 95% from critics and 97% from the audience.
