5 Dark Horror Movies for Those Disappointed by “Soul Collector” (minus “Silence of the Lambs” and “Zodiac”)

This is where you really have to be scared.

Let’s be honest: “Soul Collector” didn’t live up to expectations, inflated by stylish trailers and comparisons to “The Silence of the Lambs” and “Zodiac” from Western critics. If, like us, you left the session with the silent question “is that all?!” on your lips, don’t be mad, because there are more than enough movies that are comparable (and way cooler!) to Longlegs.

“February”

If you still enjoy some of Osgood Perkins’ directorial discoveries and are interested in seeing where he started, feel free to tune in to this horror film starring the cool Emma Roberts, Kiernan Shipka and Lucy Boynton.

“February” is, like “Soul Collector”, divided into three parts and intrigues until the last seconds. Yes, and visually both Oz films are very similar, and the style is almost the only thing for which I want to praise the horror film with Nicolas Cage.

“Empty man”

For those looking for a solid slow-burner horror with supernatural elements, The Empty Man is an ideal choice. The film opens with one of the most terrifying scenes in the history of the genre, and then expertly combines detective and scary components.

“Watching”

Maika Monroe is a tough actress, and her somewhat questionable performance in Soul Collector shouldn’t convince you otherwise. The relaxed style, a great lead performance by Monroe, and a superb antagonist played by Burt Gorman make this a movie-night affair.

“Paranoia”

Shia LeBeouf starred in this film just before his big break in Transformers, in which he plays a teenager who starts spying on his neighbors and accidentally witnesses serial killings.

“Seven”

Of course, you’ve almost certainly seen this great movie, but after “The Collector of Souls” it plays with new colors and feels like a breath of fresh air – we checked it out personally.
