Be surprised who played Ryuk in the movie.

In 2017, a remake of Death Note was released on Netflix. True, the rating is not high – after all, it was not possible to completely surpass the anime. We will tell you in what ways the film adaptation turned out to be worse, and in what ways this anime legend could still surpass.

What turned out to be worse?

First of all, a lot of cool characters have been removed. The same Matsuda, who has now become a meme thanks to Al’s line “Matsuda, don’t you dare do that”, does not appear in the frame. And it’s a shame.

Moreover, the film turned out to be more of a typical horror film, without any mystery. There is no such enthusiasm that makes you predict Light and L’s next move. And Al himself is not the same here as in the anime. Many viewers noted that it lacks the same charm and touch of mad genius.

“The new L seems anything but a brilliant detective who specializes in particularly difficult cases. All his attempts to play detective come down to revelations like, “I know Kira is in Seattle.”according to one of the reviews on Kinopoisk.

Are there any benefits?

Yes. On the positive side, Ryuk is very cool. His appearance is more detailed and the character itself is even clearer in terms of character. He was played by William Dafoe, known to many for his role as Norman Osborn in Spider-Man.

Also, several new epic scenes have been added here, making it even more interesting to see what happens in some places.

What are the reviews and is it worth watching?

On Kinopoisk the film has a rating of 5 points, and on IMDb – 4.5 points. Of course, if you haven’t seen the anime yet, you shouldn’t start with the film, because it’s nothing more than a dry retelling with some branches from the canon. But if you’ve already seen the original, then it’s quite possible to pass the time with your favorite story in a new reading.
