A replacement for Guy Ritchie’s films has appeared on Netflix (you’ll be surprised, but the film came out 10 years ago and made money)

A cool crime comedy has just arrived on Netflix that’s definitely not a bad entertainment. There’s something to talk about while you wait for the director’s new film, In the Gray Zone, due out in January 2025.

What movie are we talking about?

You will be surprised, but the film, which began to gain popularity, was released in 2013. The film is called “Black Marks” and is directed by Jonathan Sobol. Kurt Russell played the title role, and Jay Baruchel, Matt Dillon, Chris Diamantopolos, Kenneth Welsh, Jason Jones and others also took part in the film.

The plot revolves around a thief who spent five years in prison for stealing a work of art. He was already thinking about giving up crime, but then he received a tempting offer: to steal an old book that costs one and a half million dollars. The hero did not find the strength to refuse and decided to carry out the theft together with his brother. But everything began to go wrong when it turned out that each of the brothers was pursuing his own goal.

The film’s rating is not very high: 6 points on Kinopoisk and 6.3 points on IMDb. And at the global box office it collected only a penny – only 64 thousand dollars. But at the same time, the majority of viewers really enjoyed the film, and all because it is stylistically very similar to the films of Guy Ritchie. There is a juicy picture, black humor and a cool cast. So if you are a Richie fan, then Sobol’s work is unlikely to disappoint you.

By the way, some people think that the audience in Russia did not pay enough attention to the film because of the translation and the insufficiently complete description. In fact, the picture is called The Art of the Steal, which translates as “The Art of Robbery” and already makes something clearer about the film.
