Both adults and children yawned during the session.

A whole collection of Hollywood stars, a budget of more than 100 million dollars, a cool idea, the director of ‘A Quiet Place’ at the helm and a massive promotional campaign – did ‘Imaginary Friends’ really disappoint the viewer with all this? It’s hard to believe, but they did it.

Moreover, the plot is very intriguing. We are told the story of a girl named Bea (Kaili Fleming) who has lost her mother and is about to lose her father due to his heart condition. An unhappy schoolgirl suddenly discovers that she can see the imaginary friends of older people.

Together with her neighbor Cal (Reynolds), who also has this ability, she embarks on an exciting adventure to help these forgotten imaginary friends reunite with their former owners, who have grown up and forgotten them.

And while children are moderately interested in watching what’s happening – the monsters here are colorful, bright and friendly – adults start to get bored after Reynolds’ first joke. Krasinka tries to mix serious themes with an openly naive fairy tale, which makes you not want to follow the story at all – it is immediately clear how it will all end.

They do not explain to us where monsters come from, what their fate is, what connects them with people. What’s even more unnerving is that none of the film’s characters seem bothered by these questions, as Bea and the others simply accept the incredible things they experience without ever questioning why or how.

Because the film does not work as a logical fantasy, as a comedy for people over the age of sixteen, it is boring and as a drama it is too naive and childish.

Of the high-profile premieres of recent times, it is better to pay attention to “Furiosa” – it cannot be called an ideal image, but it is certainly more interesting and mature.
