Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio’s collaboration on Titanic was a nightmare. The young actor did not know how to treat his charming mistress on the screen, and this manifested itself even in the smallest things.
There was real chemistry between Rose and Jack on screen, but it was oh so hard to achieve. When it came to kissing, young Leo clearly felt out of place, and Kate felt it herself.
“He was far from ideal in terms of kissing. We continued kissing after take. I wore a lot of pale makeup and Leo wore tan (the actor had to look tanned). I ended up looking like I was sucking on a chocolate bar. We had to retake it about four times,” Winslet said on the Vanity Fair YouTube podcast.
DiCaprio turned out to be completely different from what his colleague imagined, but this is only half the problem. The situation was made worse by a painfully uncomfortable outfit.
The corset, of course, emphasized the main character’s shape, added volume to her chest and made her waist thinner, but even just breathing in became a challenge for Winslet. Especially in the most legendary and iconic scene “I fly”:
“I look at it and see how much I couldn’t breathe in that damn corset.”
And if the actress could come to terms with her future lover and a failed outfit, to this day she refuses to work with James Cameron due to constant conflicts on the set.
“I will only work with him again for more money.”
But the heroes of our recent rating, even for all the money in the world, will not star in Marvel films. For these actors, principles are much more important than compensation.
