There cannot be any other candidates for this role.

85-year-old Ian McKellen will be eager to revisit Middle-earth on the set of the next film in the Lord of the Rings universe. True, this time everything depends not only on the wishes of the actor.

Director Andy Serkis and producer Peter Jackson will likely be thrilled to see Gandalf, performed by the great British artist, hit the big screens, but Ian himself isn’t sure he’ll be able to see the premiere, which is tentatively scheduled for 2026, will live for a long time.

“I have heard about movements in Tolkien’s land, but there is no script yet, no business proposal, no plan. But if I’m still alive…’ McKellen jokingly said in an interview with The Times Of London, simultaneously confirming that he was ready to return to his legendary role.

The artist’s latest work was the successful theatrical production “The King of Players”, for which he did not shave for months, and therefore for the image of Gandalf he will no longer have to grow a beard or use false facial hair.

For his part, Jackson, who stepped back from directing the Lord of the Rings franchise for the first time, remains silent on whether the famed wizard will appear in the film. So far, according to some interviews with the producer of the new product, only one thing is clear: viewers are waiting for the adventures of Gollum, which took place years before the events of “The Hobbit.”

“The character has always fascinated me because Gollum reflects the worst side of human nature, while his Sméagol side is perhaps very endearing. It is still too early to say who will cross his path, but suffice it to say that we will take the example of Professor Tolkien,” assured the filmmaker in a recent conversation with the press.
