If, like us, you missed the detective line about the search for kidnapped people in the controversial new Netflix “Eric” with Benedict Cumberbatch, don’t worry. There are several films about kidnapping that show such an important topic for society in a much better way.

“Search” (2018)

An innovative thriller whose action takes place entirely on the screens of computers and mobile devices. The story begins with David Kim, a single father, who discovers that his 16-year-old daughter Margot has disappeared.

Trying to find clues, David begins investigating his daughter’s online footprints, including her social media accounts, emails and other digital sources.

“Gone Baby Gone” (2007)

The plot revolves around a private detective and his partner and girlfriend who are hired to investigate the disappearance of a little girl named Amanda McCready in a rough neighborhood of Boston.

While police are already investigating the case, Amanda’s mother, Helen, believes detectives can use their connections and methods to find her daughter.

“Prisoners” (2013)

A very exciting thriller by Denis Villeneuve. Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman) is confronted with every parent’s nightmare: his six-year-old daughter Anna and her friend Joy disappear during a family vacation.

The police soon arrest the suspect, but release him due to lack of evidence. Desperate, Keller takes matters into his own hands, kidnaps Alex and tortures him.

“Hostage” (2008)

The plot revolves around Brian Mills, a former CIA agent (Liam Neeson). His seventeen-year-old daughter Kim and her friend Amanda go on a trip to Europe, where they soon fall into the clutches of an Albanian gang involved in human trafficking.

“Room” (2015)

The story follows a five-year-old boy named Jack and his mother Joy, who are held captive in a small room. Joy was kidnapped seven years ago and is forcibly kept in isolation by her captor, known as Old Nick.

Jack never knew life outside the room, as it encompassed the entire world. Joy tries to give her son a normal life and decides to devise a desperate escape plan.
