The Cranes Are Flying is a drama that changed the military genre forever. She received rave reviews at home and abroad. The makers were expected to triumph at the Cannes Film Festival, where the film remained the only domestic project to win the top prize in 66 years. In addition to the Palme d’Or, the film was awarded the French Crystal Star Award and the Polish Siren Award. Critics were especially delighted with the performance of Tatyana Samoilova, who played the role of Veronica.
War and Peace left the world speechless with its massive battle scenes and innovative film techniques. The film fascinated film critics in Europe and beyond and received honors from the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Oscar awards for best foreign language film. The film also broke financial records: its estimated budget was 8 million Soviet rubles, while at the box office it managed to collect 58 million and paid for itself seven times over.
“Ivan’s Childhood” became one of the most cited films of the USSR in the work of Western directors. In addition to dozens of different film awards, this project became the most profitable in Tarkovsky’s career.
