The audience didn’t see much.
The second part of the adventures of Ivan and the Gray Wolf did well at the box office, but received many critical reviews from adult audiences. The cartoon was criticized for its derivativeness, elements that stand out in the atmosphere of a Russian fairy tale and outright laziness.
Why did the audience decide that the animators didn’t look into this work? Because of 33 movie blunders, some of which even caused outrage:
You will notice animation errors from the first minutes when the Gray Wolf appears on the screen. Initially the earring was visible on his right ear, but in the next frame and beyond it adorned his left ear, then changed location again. If the creators simply could not decide on the hero’s accessory during the entire runtime, the spur in the form of the Melnitsa studio logo appeared only once on the hero’s boot.
Scattered throughout the plot are bloopers featuring objects and inscriptions that disappear in seconds, characters forgetting their own poses and movements, while colors change to the opposite in moments. What struck the audience most was the sound of falling cartridges after a shot from a medieval cannon! Perhaps the creators skimped on special effects in the hope that no one would pay attention.
However, fans of the franchise had the most complaints about the script. Although the young children were satisfied, their parents expected an artistic embodiment of Slavic folklore, and not modern mythology with iPhones, a rocket on chicken legs and advertising for a new cartoon.
