EXCLUSIVE: Ava DuVernay is set to deliver a holiday gift on the big screen on Christmas Day, but you can get your first look now.

The Oscar-nominated filmmaker will present special presentations of her critically acclaimed films Origin for guild members on December 25th. Screenings take place on Christmas Day at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm PT on the West Coat at the Rodeo Screening Room in Beverly Hills and at 12:00 pm ET on the East Coast at the Tribeca Screening Room.

I’m told email invitations will go out this morning to members of the WGA, PGA, DGA, American Society of Cinematographers, American Cinema Editors and other guilds.

However, we went under the cinema tree so to speak and watched an exciting exclusive clip from Origin, the most difficult film ever for distributors Neon and DuVernay, capturing the layers of discrimination. Watch Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor describe a story of love meets hate from 1930s Germany, while author Isabel Wikerson:

“Christmas day is my favorite day to watch movies” Origin Director and writer DuVernay told Deadline about the decision to make an offer Origin Almost a month away from release on January 19, 2024. “Something about being with family and friends and celebrating that togetherness.

“I remember when Selma “The film opened on Christmas Day and I saw people from all different cultures gather around the film,” the filmmaker added. “It was incredibly meaningful. That’s why we wanted to create a space where people in my hometown who work in our industry can bring their guests and experiences Origin on Christmas Day. It’s a film about human dignity and it’s a beautiful day to think about such things.”

Based on Wilkerson’s 2020 bestseller Caste: the origin of our discontent, origin seek the truth about the connection between the global and cultural roots of slavery in America and the racial segregation and violence of Jim Crow laws, anti-Semitism, the Nazi systematic persecution of Jews and the horrors of the Holocaust. Shortly before, Neon acquired worldwide rights to the film on September 5 Origin’World premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where DuVernay became the first African-American woman to appear in competition.

Since, Origin has played at TIFF, other festivals and jam-packed shows around the world in anticipation of his full debut next month. For those of you catching up on this season, one of those busy screenings took place earlier this week at the Ross House in LA, where Oscar winner Ben Affleck moderated a conversation with DuVernay and had high praise for the film. Multiple Oscar winner Sean Penn and Frances Fisher were also present at the screening of “Ross House”.

Origin is produced by DuVernay and her longtime professional partner Paul Garnes through their Array Filmworks.
