Taylor Lautner and his wife Tay Dome reveal the biggest lesson they’ve learned in marriage on their first anniversary

Taylor Lautner31 years old and his wife Tay dome, 26, have been married for exactly one year and are already learning the lessons of their union. Among older adults, time dedicated to “communication is essential,” according to a new interview with the couple. “We knew this throughout our relationship,” Tay said. PEOPLE for a joint interview published just two days after his birthday, November 11. “I mean, we’ve been together for almost six years.”

But, he added, it’s not that simple: They have different communication styles. “Taylor and I have very different communication styles,” she said of her handsome husband. “And then when we get into a… I don’t even want to say an argument, because we don’t really argue. But when we get into a conversation or a disagreement, whatever it is, and we talk about it, he knows that I’m silent and not really talking. And Taylor can process her emotions.

OH Dusk icon admitted that this might be difficult for him. “It’s frustrating because it’s like I want to talk about everything in that moment and be done with it,” he explained to the outlet. “And I want to know your feelings. I know she’s angry. I say, “Just tell me.” But she loses control and she needs to take a step back to process, think and realize exactly what she feels,” she reported. “So once we understand each other’s different communication styles, it’s now much easier to have those conversations.”

Despite being told the first year of marriage would be the hardest, the happy couple insist they simply haven’t gone through a tough time yet. “A lot of people, like family and friends, warned us, ‘The first year of marriage.’ You know, that’s the hardest thing,’” Taylor said. “And we thought, ‘Really? OK.’”

So how do lovebirds respond to warnings? “We laughed,” Tay said. “We thought, ‘When will this happen? We’re just waiting.'”
