Martine McCutcheon shares health update alongside rare photo with husband Jack – as actress takes ‘break’ amid battle with chronic fatigue

Martine McCutcheon shared a health update with fans on Saturday, as well as a rare photo with husband Jack McManus.

The 47-year-old Love Actually actress opened up about her struggles with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia – a long-term condition that causes pain throughout the body.

Her symptoms led to the decision to take a break from work and social media, while she said she recovered through walks with Jack and evenings in front of the TV.

Martine shared a sweet photo with her husband, who is rarely seen, kissing her on the cheek as they enjoyed an autumn walk – with Martine wearing a cuddly hat.

The former EastEnders actress shared an update on Instagram, writing: “Hi! I haven’t been on here often (see my stories). But a break from work and social media was much needed.

What is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Also known as ME – or myalgic encephalomyelitis – CFS can affect anyone, but is most common in women between their mid-20s and mid-40s.

The most noticeable symptom is extreme fatigue, but sleep problems, joint or muscle pain, headache, flu-like symptoms and a fast or irregular heartbeat are also the most noticeable symptoms.

Treatments include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), specific exercises or medication to treat nausea, pain or sleep problems.

“I’ve been working in this industry since I was a toddler and it was like a deep breath to get away from everyday life for that time – just for me and my health!”

Martine went on to talk about balancing motherhood and son Rafferty (8), with her diagnosis of chronic fatigue.

She continued: “Obviously I still have to balance managing my CFS and my fibro with motherhood, work and all that stuff, but I’m going at my own pace, running my own race and I’ve realized that “It’s the world is still here.” always turn around when you stop and put yourself first…

“I wanted to share this with you in case any of you feel like you need a break.”

She added that she was “building the momentum and getting ready!”

“Today I just went for a leisurely walk with Jack and now I’m happily sitting in front of the TV with the candles burning.”

The star said: “If you have an underlying condition, you can’t take any risks.” As with any chronic condition, flare-ups can occur. When I go out, I always have my mask and gloves with me and I take it very seriously.

“I’ve been doing really well emotionally for a long time and I feel a lot calmer. “It was good to realize that it’s okay to do things at your own pace.”

Martine was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome in 2011 and struggled with severe depression.

She previously blamed her hectic work schedule for the onset of her health problems.

In April 2017, the actress revealed that she was diagnosed with Lyme disease, which causes her to lose weight more slowly than the average person.

ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) is a long-term, fluctuating neurological disease that affects the nervous system and immune system.

Martine and Jack married in 2012 and have a son together, Rafferty.

The couple married on Italy’s picturesque Lake Como in September 2012, five years after they met and six years after they first met in December 2006.

Rafferty, the couple’s only child, was born in February 2012.

In December 2016, during an appearance on Loose Women, Martine admitted that her friends helped to “save” her marriage to Jack.

She said, “I think my friends saved my relationship a few times!” There have been times, no doubt – I’ve been with Jack for 10 years now and of course we’ve had our ups and downs – a difficult eight of 10 years is a blessing for him.

“But I think that despite the trials and tribulations – when I feel like I can’t get through to him – my friends have given me the insight.

“They said to each other: ‘Calm down, you really love him, you’re meant for each other, stick with it. People are throwing in the towel these days more than ever; Everything is so disposable now.”
