“I have fondest memories of him smoking on the toilet from our flights together,” he wrote on Instagram.
A moment of silence: Travis Barker (pictured), drummer for pop punk band Blink-182, pays tribute to percussionist Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters, who died Friday at age 50.
Barker said he was saddened to learn that Hawkins died with more than 10 different substances in his body while on tour in Bogota, Colombia.
“I have no words… It’s not enough to say I’ll miss you, my friend. Until next time we’ll be drumming and smoking in the men’s room. Rest in peace,” he added.
Barker recalled that the two rockers met in California more than 20 years ago, before both had significant success in the music industry.
“You want to come and watch me play in bars and say, ‘Son, you’re a star,'” Barker said.

At the time, Barker described himself as a “stickman” drumming in punk bands, while Hawkins performed in Alanis Morissette’s band.
News of Hawkins’ death came on Saturday, March 26, when he did not respond in his hotel room in Bogotá.
The cause of death was not immediately disclosed, but it turned out that his heart was twice the size of an adult man.
The Foo Fighters were supposed to play at the Estéreo Picnic Festival in Colombia’s capital, where an announcement told concert attendees that the band would not be able to play due to “serious medical conditions.”

Old friends: Barker remembers the two rockers who met in California more than 20 years ago before they had significant success in the music industry.
Hawkins, married to his wife Alison and father of two young children, Oliver and Annabelle, had just completed several South American tours.
Hawkins joined Foo Fighters in 1997 after the band completed their second album, The Color and the Shape.
Before joining the band, Hawkins played drums for singer-songwriter Morissette. It was his work with Morissette that caught the attention of legendary Nirvana drummer, Foos frontman Dave Grohl, who recruited him.

RIP: News of Hawkins’ death surfaced on Saturday, March 26, the day after he did not respond in his hotel room in Bogotá. The cause of death was not immediately disclosed, but it turned out that his heart was twice the size of a typical adult male.
