“As the friends’ reunion approached, we watched the show together again,” Hurwitz said. “F***, I was so good!!!…Look what I did???” We rewound and studied scenes.

“We are united by our respect and appreciation for humor. It was magical to be with him as he rediscovered his genius.”

Hurwitz said that she “obviously knew this man in a very different way as well,” saying, “Even though I loved him more than I could understand, he was complicated and caused pain I’ve never known .”

“No one in my adult life has had a greater influence on me than Matthew Langford Perry. I am extremely grateful for this, for everything I have learned from our relationship.”

Hurwitz was indirectly referring to Perry’s struggle with substance abuse, which he spent much of his life with.

“I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Al Anon, an invaluable resource for those who love someone struggling with this devastating disease,” she said.

She ended her letter by saying, “Matty, I’m relieved you’re at peace” and ended the post with, “Greetings, Moll-o-Rama (…fication).”

Perry told People through a representative of their split in June 2021, “Sometimes things just don’t work out, and this is one of them. I wish Molly all the best.”

Less than a year earlier, after their engagement, Perry described Hurwitz to the publication as “the greatest woman in the world right now.”

Hurwitz took to social media to remember the late actor on the same day Perry’s Friends co-stars Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc and Schwimmer released a joint statement saying they were “all so deeply devastated by the loss of Matthew .”

“We were more than just role players,” the ensemble told People. ‘We are a family. There is so much to say, but for now we will take a moment to grieve and come to terms with this incredible loss.”

The band concluded by saying: “We’ll say more over time when we can.” For now, our thoughts and love are with Matty’s family, his friends and all who loved him around the world.

Perry said less than a year ago that he would like to help others who find themselves in a similar situation to fight drug or alcohol addiction.

During an appearance on the “Q with Tom Power” podcast at Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema in November 2022, Perry said that the “most important thing” he wants to be remembered for “is wanting to help people in their struggles with addiction. ”

“The best thing for me is when an alcoholic or drug addict comes to me and says, ‘Will you help me?'” he said. “I can say yes and follow through and do it.

“When I die, I don’t want friends to be the first thing mentioned. I want it to be the first thing that comes up and I’ll have to spend the rest of my life proving it.”

Perry said it was difficult for him to watch past episodes of Friends because he was able to recount his battle with addiction through his appearance on the show.

“I didn’t watch the show, and I didn’t watch it because I might start drinking … opiates … cocaine,” he said. “As I can see how I look season after season.”

Perry called the show “an incredible ride” and said, “It was amazing to see how it touched the hearts of different generations.”

“It has become something important and I will look at it again. It was really fun and all the people were nice.”

Perry appeared on the hit series for ten seasons from 1994 to 2004. He has also appeared in a number of films throughout his career, including 1997’s Fools Rush In, 2000’s The Whole Nine Yards, and 2009’s 17 Again.

On Saturday, TMZ reported that emergency personnel were called to Perry’s home due to a cardiac arrest. According to sources, no foul play is suspected in the actor’s death.

After their initial investigation, Los Angeles County Department of Coroner authorities delayed releasing Perry’s cause of death, saying the trial could take weeks.
