Friends of the three women said they decided to have an “impromptu” drink when the sun was out.

While Mrs. Scott drank Prosecco, Mrs. Williamson does not.

Alex was delighted, she raised her hand and waved to her. It certainly looked good in the sun.”

But her happiness was short-lived as just over 48 hours later the England captain’s World Cup dream was dashed after she tore ligaments in her knee in a United Women’s Super League clash for Arsenal with Manchester United on Wednesday.

The injury has ruled her out of this summer’s World Cup in Australia, which starts on July 20.

Taking to social media, Ms Williamson said: “I had my tears and made peace with them the night it happened and since then I’ve followed the steps I’ve been told to help me as best I can temporarily, temporarily.” .

“Ultimately, I think it’s just my time. In the last few years alone, I’ve seen teammates overcome serious illnesses and adversity with the biggest smiles on their faces.
