EXCLUSIVE: Amanda Bynes seen for FIRST time since being released from mental hospital after psychiatric incarceration

Amanda Bynes was photographed in public for the first time on Wednesday after checking out of a mental health facility after a three-week stay.

The 37-year-old actress got a manicure at an establishment in Toluca Lake, California, sources told Dailymail.com that “she was advised to continue to distance herself from her” ex-fiancé, Paul Michael .

The Thousand Oaks, Calif., resident was spotted at Cosmo Nails, where eyewitnesses said she smoked a cigarette while waiting for an Uber after her manicure.

Bynes left a mental health facility Tuesday after a three-week stay. She has reportedly been working with facility staff to determine if she is ready to return to her normal routines.

“Amanda left the medical facility on her own,” a source told Dailymail.com on Thursday. “She was very cooperative, involved in her recovery and the staff supported her decision to leave as she successfully completed the treatment program.”

Bynes “has been advised to continue to distance herself from her ex,” Michael, the source said, adding that “her family and friends believe their split was a catalyst for her breakdown and that he is not a healthy and safe person for them around.”

The source continued that the former couple were “co-dependent and the latter part of their relationship was toxic, in part due to the fact that they met in rehab.

“They replaced their addiction to substances with an addiction to each other.”

Now, Bynes is enrolled in an outpatient treatment program to ensure she maintains the progress she made during treatment. She also regains a sense of normalcy, as she is believed to be returning to her own home.

Bynes has been under guardianship since 2013, but it ended last year to give her more freedom to make her own decisions.

TMZ previously reported that Byne’s parents didn’t consider starting another conservatory because she was doing relatively well before her recent mental health crisis.

The original scheme began in 2013 after she was involuntarily committed following multiple run-ins with the law that began a year earlier.

She had two hit-and-runs and a DUI in 2012, and was later arrested in 2013 for allegedly throwing a bong out the window of her 36th-floor Manhattan apartment.

Bynes was last hospitalized after reportedly wandering the streets of Greater Los Angeles for four days right after her car was towed in Long Beach on March 15.

She was apparently in a manic state at the time and walked around naked for some time.

Amanda was reportedly seen naked the day she entered the treatment facility, but a witness told TMZ that the She’s The Man star stopped a car to get help.

Apparently aware of her mental state, she called 911 to report that she was coming out of a psychotic state and needed help.

After her arrest, Bynes was initially placed in a psychiatric facility for 72 hours, which was initially extended while her team at the psychiatric facility developed a treatment plan for her.

Amidst her mental health struggles, Bynes’ parents banned her ex-fiancé Paul Michael from having any contact with her after their four-year relationship ended in January this year.

“They don’t want their ex-fiancé around and he’s been ordered to have no contact with her,” an insider told DailyMail.com on March 28.

“He doesn’t seem to have her best interests at heart and her family has nothing good to say about him.”

Speaking to the New York Post, he said: “She went off her meds, and she’s still off… She’s wild.”

Michael has previously claimed that the two are now “friends”.

Bynes rose to fame at age 13 as a child star on Nickelodeon’s The Amanda Show and went on to find success on shows like All That and What I Like About You.

She has also appeared in films such as She’s the Man, What a Girl Wants and Hairspray, with her last acting appearance in 2010’s Easy A.

Bynes’ recent crisis appears to be the reason she pulled out of a reunion with her All That costar at ’90s Con last month, which was initially attributed to an “undisclosed illness.”

She previously expressed her excitement to reconnect with her cast members ahead of the convention.

She would be joined by SNL star Kenan Thompson, his Good Burger co-star Kel Mitchell, Danny Tamberelli and Lori Beth Denberg, all of whom were part of the hit Nickelodeon sketch comedy series.

The event would also have been her first public performance since the termination of her conservatory a year earlier.

The series ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2005, and Bynes appeared on All That from 1996 to 2000.

It was later revived in 2019.
