The authors decided to keep silent until the end of filming.
The creator of the Dothraki language for the Game of Thrones series, David Peterson, revealed a curious fact about Daenerys just eight years after the start of filming on the project. Her title, Khaleesi, has been mispronounced all along.
Following the lead of the actors and showrunners, the audience emphasized the second syllable – it’s convenient to say and easy to remember. In fact, Stormborn and Burning in the original language “hit” on the first syllable – khAlisi.
Peterson only spoke about this in 2019 during The Allusionist podcast, Digital Spy writes. By the way, the culprit of the mistake is Ian Glen, who played the eternal handy mistress of Jorah Mormont. He was the first to mispronounce the title. The idea seemed to be successful, so the authors did not insist on linguistic subtleties.
