Hollyoaks star Abi Phillips revealed that she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer after testing for two lumps on her neck.
The 28-year-old actress, who plays Liberty Savage in the soap opera, shared the shocking news with her Instagram followers on Monday night, announcing that she was diagnosed last month.
Abi said that after Love Islander Demi Jones awakened consciousness by sharing the location of her own tumors, she was told not to worry about the doctor before asking for a second opinion.

“As much as I wanted to hear it, I wanted everything to be controlled for my peace of mind. I went to a specialist and he immediately told me that he was very worried about where my lump was and referred me for an urgent biopsy and scans.

Abi also revealed that a counselor later confirmed the worst and said his cancer would require immediate surgery and radiation therapy.
He said: ‘Two weeks and just before Easter weekend I had an appointment with a QE consultant. [Queen Elizabeth] The hospital that sat me down and said I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and needed surgery and radiotherapy.
I never thought they would tell me I had cancer at 28, you would never think that this would happen to you.
Abi added that if Demi hadn’t shared her thyroid cancer ordeal on social media, she wouldn’t have forced her to see a specialist if she hadn’t realized that her audiences were “all in the same place”.
Abi urged his followers to be proactive about their health and continued: “If you find a lump or anything unusual on your body, never think anything is wrong. “Young”, have everything checked by a specialist if possible and insist on testing even if nothing turns up, because early diagnosis is essential for a good prognosis.
“By next week, I’ll be on track to recover from my surgery.”
