Reese Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth are divorcing after nearly 12 years of marriage.
The 47-year-old movie star shared the news via her Instagram on Friday afternoon in a joint statement from her and Jim, 52 days before their 12th wedding anniversary.
“We have some personal news to share… It was with great care and consideration that we made the difficult decision to separate,” the mother-of-three wrote.
“We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and move forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for all that we have created together.”
Reese and Jim, who were married on March 26, 2011, have one son together: Tennessee James, 10; She has two children from her first marriage with Ryan Phillippe: Ava (23) and Deacon (19).

Reese and Jim continued in their statement, “Our number one priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter. These things are never easy and very personal.”

A source told People magazine after the news broke that Reese and Jim’s split was “amicable.”

It was definitely a scary situation and I was scared for my husband, but that’s no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night absolutely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I am very sorry for my behaviour.’
