‘Flamin’ Hot’, ‘Moustache’, ‘The Luckiest Guy In The World’ Among SXSW Audience Award Winners

Directed by Eva Longoria Shining hotImran J. Khans mustache and the upcoming ESPN biodoc about NBA icon Bill Walton were among the audience award winners unveiled Monday for the 31st SXSW Film & TV Festival.

Shining hot, starring Jesse Garcia in the sometimes true story of the man behind the flaming Hot Chip Revolution, was crowned the audience award winner in the festival’s headline section. The pic, by Searchlight Pictures, will be released on Hulu and Disney+ on June 9.

mustachewritten and directed by Khan, won the Narrative Feature Competition and Julio Quintana’s The long game won for Narrative Spotlight. The winner of the documentary film competition was Dan Covert Geoff McFetridge: Drawing a Lifewhile the Documentary Spotlight Award went to Olivia Kuan The Herricans.

The party’s Midnighters Audience Award went to Bishal Dutta It lives within itself.

The festival, which ended on Sunday, previously announced its jury awards. Today’s sections are spread across 10 film series, three episode sections of TV content and six short film sidebars.

Among the winners on the TV side is the upcoming ESPN documentary series directed by Steve James The happiest man in the world on NBA star won analyst Walton and won awards in the TV Firsts category. Starz’s second season premiere blind spot was awarded Best of in the TV Spotlight.
