Latto later received the Powerhouse Award from 24-year-old Have Mercy singer Chloe Bailey.

Bailey – who collaborated with Latto on the 2022 track For the Night – called the singer “a force to be reckoned with, an icon for young women everywhere” and “the personification of a powerhouse.”

Meanwhile, Latto expressed her gratitude upon receiving the award: “Megan Thee Stallion won this award, Doja Cat won this award. It’s crazy because I’m a fan of my colleagues and now they’re my colleagues.

“All the inspiring women who paved the way for me and all future women. I’m grateful to be a part of this new wave of female rap and baby, we’re kicking in the door and we’re not taking no for an answer.”

The star also spoke to Billboard ahead of the red carpet event about what it means to receive the special honor.

“I like the weight the award carries. I feel it’s deeper than music. It’s like, “Are you the same off camera? What are you doing outside of music? What are you doing with your platform, with your success?”

She also shared that she recently toured with Lizzo and was inspired by her.

“Just watch how she interacts with those around her. How well she takes care of her team. How well she took care of me…she inspired me again.”
