The cast of the Mean Girls musical continues to grow, and Busy Philipps signs on to the Paramount Plus project.

The 43-year-old actress will play June George, the bizarre mother of The Plastics leader Regina George (Renee Rapp).

The role originated in Amy Poehler’s 2004 film, with Kerry Butler taking on the stage role.

Philipps joins a cast that also includes Angourie Rice, Auli’i Cravalho, Bebe Wood and many more.

The news also comes after original Mean Girls star Amanda Seyfried insisted on a cameo in the musical film.

The original film featured Poehler’s June George constantly trying to be the “cool mom” to her daughter and the rest of The Plastics.

She encourages them to drink alcohol around the house and always tries to keep up with the latest gossip.

The character was also carried over to the stage musical, played by Kerry Butler, who also played Mrs. Heron (played by Ana Gasteyer in the film) and Mrs. Norbury (played by Tina Fey in the film).

Fey will return to write the screenplay for the film (as she did for the stage musical), with music by Jeff Richmond, lyrics by Nell Benjamin.

Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. will direct, with Angourie Rice, Auli’i Cravalho, Jaquel Spivey and Renée Rapp announced in early December.

Philipps currently stars as Summer Dutkowsky in the hit series Girls5Eva, which premiered on Peacock and returns to Netflix for its third season later this year.

The project will reunite her with Fey, who serves as an executive producer on her late-night E! Talk show Busy tonight.
