Queen consort Camilla will presumably be known as “Queen Camilla” since her husband, King Charles III, has its official coronation in May. Buckingham Palace will recognize Camilla’s new description, which appears to run counter to the latest Queen Elizabeth you want, according to a report by daily email on February 25th.

“There is a view within the Palazzo that ‘Queen Consort’ is complicated and it may be easier for Camilla to simply be known as ‘Queen’ when the time is right,” a source told the outlet. The change may have been announced last week when Camilla’s ongoing charity project called ‘The Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room’ was abruptly renamed ‘Queen’s Reading Room’, according to the source.
Camilla, who married Charles in 2005, was known as the Duchess of Cornwall until the beloved monarch’s death in September, when she became queen consort. The new title for Charles’ second wife was given to her by a letter written by Queen Elizabeth in February 2022.
“And when, in time, my son Carlos becomes king, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support you gave me; and it is my sincere wish that, when the time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her loyal service,” she wrote Her Majesty.
At the time, Charles said he was “deeply honored” that his mother wanted his “dear wife” to assume the title of “Queen Consort” when he became king. The letter was also welcomed by the royal family, as there were suggestions that Camilla might use the title “Princess Consort” amid lingering public tensions over the tragic 1997 death of Charles’ first wife. Princess Diana.
The change of description can be welcomed without drama if history has anything to say about it. “After all, Her Majesty is the Queen,” said the daily email the source said of Camilla. “Prince Philip was officially a prince consort, but he was not known as a prince consort. The Queen, of course, would still be Queen Consort, so the Palace wouldn’t stop anyone from calling her Her Majesty that if she so wished.
The source also noted that during her time as non-regnant queen, King George VI’s wife was “technically ‘queen consort’ but was known in public simply as ‘queen Elizabeth'”.
Also, the UK Sunday hours He explained his decision to remove “spouse” from his posts weeks ago. “‘Consorte’ is a description, not a title,” explained the newspaper’s archivist. Wild roseOf daily email. “Although all previous wives of kings were queen consorts, none were referred to as such.”
