Diane Warren at the 14th Oscar Song Nomination for “Applause” & Assembling Power Team of Female Crooners for “80 For Brady” – Crew Call Podcast

It’s not Oscar season without songwriter Diane Warren. After receiving a Governor’s Award from AMPAS this fall, multi-platinum sales and billboard Chart topper and songwriter of hits like rhythm of the night And If I could turn back time sees her 14th Oscar nomination for The Original Song, this time for the tune “Applause” from the Samuel Goldwyn Films title Tell it like a woman.

The song is another inspirational anthem in the vein of some of Warren’s other nominated singles, such as 2015’s “Till It Happens to You” from the doc. the hunting ground, “Stand Up For Something” from 2017 marshal2018 “I Will Fight”. RBG amongst other things.

“‘Applause’ is a love song to yourself, it’s about giving yourself love and respect and taking a moment to do that,” Warren says in the latest episode of Crew Call. The song is not only the song in the credits but also appears in the short film segment Share a ride. Warren, who enjoys “casting” her songs with top artists, chose Disney offspring Star Sofia Carson sings “Applause” at the actress’ dedication to women’s causes.

Another song Warren has on the radio this season is “Gonna Be You,” the anthem of Paramount’s Lily Tomlin-Jane Fonda-Rita Moreno-Sally Field comedy. 80 for Brady. Taking inspiration from the title, Warren thought back to the ’80s and thought, “What if I formed a supergroup?” Their concept was “iconic artists of the 80s who are still as big as they are today.” Read, Dolly Parton, Cyndi Lauper, Belinda Carlisle, Gloria Estefan and Debbie Harry, who hired Warren to write the reggae-inspired song.

We talk to Warren about the Broadway musical currently in progress about her life currently titled ObsessedCher makes her appearance at the Governors Awards and what’s next for Oscar season.
