She previously described being diagnosed with the disease, which started on a girls’ holiday when Demi was 16.

Sharing the inspirational post, she encouraged her 527,000 followers to feel confident too, while making sure everyone is dealing with insecurities.

Demi shared a behind-the-scenes photo during a photoshoot showing the white spots on her chest and arms.

While another photo in the report was from her youth when she had spots on her forehead and under her eyes.

The TV star explained that she is now rid of the spots on her forehead and admits she struggled to accept it when she was younger – but now she finds it “stiff”.

She wrote: “After recently talking about my vitiligo in my stories, a lot more people have asked me to talk more about it. The second photo was when I was a young teenager and in the first year I developed it I was able to get rid of my forehead spots but everything wanted to stay.

“I was really down that year as you can imagine, since it was over 10 years ago I thought I looked weird and it really took a toll mentally. As I got older some of my spots grew, as you can see on my neck it has gotten a lot bigger now and you notice it a lot more in the summer when I tan.

“I used to hate these places, now I like them so much, I think they are quite quirky and cool. If someone offered me a treatment to get rid of them tomorrow, I would honestly say no! Go away!

Next, “I owe a lot of respect and gratitude to the people who have always pushed me to talk more about it and to love it, otherwise I would always cringe!”

She reached out to fans and friends who may also be struggling with similar self-esteem issues, adding words of support.

Add: “And I hope that people reading this who are going through something similar or know someone who is going through something similar will take what I’m about to say to heart.

“No one is perfect, even the most beautiful person in the world has insecurities, the person you meet on the street or at the bar has insecurities. Your old teacher had insecurities, it’s something we all deal with throughout our lives.

So please, don’t feel like your insecurities should stop you from being yourself, having fun, and living happily. Over time you learn to love yourself more and more, small steps eventually become big steps and I am proud of you all.

“Anyway, I loved this photo from my shoot, I never got around to posting it,” Demi concluded.

She has previously been open about the disease and last year opened up about its devastation after being diagnosed – adding that she “never gets new spots”.

In conversation with OK! at the time, she shared: “The latest one is on my wrist which I got about a month ago. I thought they stopped last year but every now and then I notice new spots.

“My biggest ones have all stopped now. I have it around my eyes, on my neck, under my armpits, over my chest and over my hips. The spots on my hips are probably where I feel the worst, they are the biggest. But I just think they’re cute now.”

WHAT IS VITILIGO?

Vitiligo is one of the most common autoimmune skin disorders and is caused by a lack of melanin, the pigment that gives the skin its color.

The late singer Michael Jackson previously said he suffered from a rare skin condition called vitiligo – but his claim was controversial as many experts were adamant he did not suffer from it.

Canadian model Winnie Harlow is a known sufferer.

The body’s immune system attacks the pigment cells, viewing them as foreign invaders.

It causes painless white patches on exposed areas such as the face and fingers, although it can also appear on the wrists, around the eyes, groin, armpits and mouth.

The disease affects about one in 200 people and about 50 percent develop the first symptoms before the age of 20, although it is not clear why.

But “stressful” events like childbirth, hormone changes or even skin incisions can trigger it – there’s also a genetic link.

There is no cure, but some treatments can stop pigment loss if applied early enough.
