The comment isn’t the first time Gaga and Selena have interacted. They met at the 2016 American Music Awards after Gaga shed a tear when Selena brought up her mental health issues as she accepted the award for Favorite Female Artist. Selena followed up Bella Hadid’s first video with one where she tried to recreate the viral sound. “Instead, it’s me,” Selena said. “I accidentally overlaminated my brows.” After a pause, Sel looked at the camera and said, “My name is Selena Gomez… she look, she doesn’t even look sexy.” She has given up and gone back to her time, while some fans have marveled at how small she is in Hollywood (after all, Selena used to date Weekend for ten months after his tumultuous on-off relationship with Bella).

Gaga’s push is a prime example of why Selena shut down all other social media. “The only thing I have on my phone is TikTok because I find it a little less hostile,” she said in conversation with vanity fair about her decision to hand over her Instagram account to her assistant. “There are wonderful things about social media – connecting with fans, seeing how happy and excited they are and their stories. But usually this loses [for me now]. I created a system. Everything I do I send to my assistant, who publishes it. As for feedback, my team will be putting together some things that are encouraging.”
When asked what Selena last saw on TikTok, she admitted that she’s “kind of a nerd” when it comes to her FYP. “I love making funny videos. I’ll find recipes and ideas for makeup and hair.”
