Former Grange Hill and Sweeny Todd actor Lee Whitlock has died aged 54, his acting agency confirmed on Monday
The British star began his career as a child actor in the early 1980s before establishing himself as a cast member in the long-running school drama Grange Hill, in which he played Bevis Loveday.
Bureau Urban Collective confirmed his death in a social media post: “Saddened by the passing of our client Lee Whitlock.
“Lee was an amazing character and actor who left a legacy of courage and pioneering at a very young age.
“Lee was extremely entertaining, funny and positive to work with, my condolences to family and friends. REST IN PEACE.’
The actor reportedly died on Friday. A cause of death is not yet known.
Throughout his career, Whitlock played supporting roles in a number of successful films, including director David Leland’s legendary 1987 drama Wish You Were Here.
He also starred alongside established Hollywood actors Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, and played a police officer in Tim Burton’s 2007 musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
However, he is perhaps best known for his television work with his first notable appearance on the hugely popular sitcom Shine On Harvey Moon.
