NYPD Blue child star Austin Majors has died aged 27 while staying at a homeless shelter in Los Angeles, it has been reported.
The former child actor reportedly died Saturday night and “had ingested a potentially lethal amount of fentanyl,” TMZ reported.
An autopsy on Majors’ body will be completed today and final toxicology results are expected in a few months.
The family released a statement to TMZ telling the outlet, “[Austin] was a loving, artistic, brilliant and kind person. Austin was very happy and proud of his acting career. He was an active Eagle Scout and graduated Salutatorian in high school. He then graduated from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with a passion for directing and music production.”

“Austin’s younger sister Kali says her fondest memories of Austin are growing up with him on set, volunteering at Kids With A Cause events and backpacking together,” it said.
Kali is also an actress; She is an aspiring film writer, producer and director.
“Austin was the child of son, brother, grandson and nephew that we are proud of and will miss forever,” it said.
Austin starred as Theo Sipowicz on NYPD Blue for seven seasons; He played the son of Detective Andy Sipowicz, played by Dennis Franz.
Austin won the Young Artists Award for Outstanding Performance in a Television Series for his work in NYPD Blue.
The actor was also nominated for Best Performance in a Voice Role for Treasure Planet.
He was born on November 23 in California.
Austin graduated second in high school in 2013 and then attended school at the University of Southern California, School of Cinematic Arts, majoring in film and television production and minoring in music production.

He has been part of Kids With A Cause since 2005.
Austin’s first role was in the 1997 film Nevada, in which he played a young boy.
He next starred in The Price of Air in 2000, Providence in 2001, Treasure Planet in 2002 and Bananas in 2004 – before landing the role of Theo in NYPD Blue.
From 1999 to 2004, he appeared as Theo in 48 episodes.
From there, Austin played Volare in 2004, one episode in ER in 2005, two episodes in Hercules in 2005, and Little Manhattan in 2005.
Between 2005 and 2007, he played small roles in Bye Bye Benjamin, Threshold, Laut Jim, NCIS, The Ant Bully, American Dad!, Dead Silence, The Gray Man and Desperate Housewives.
Austin played Will Wright in the 2007 TV movie An Accidental Christmas, 2007 Hank in Night Writer and a 2009 episode How I Met Your Mother – for his most recent roles.
