‘Loyalty is important in my marriage’: You star Penn Badgley reveals he asked for fewer sex scenes in final season of Netflix drama out of respect for wife Domino Kirke

Penn Badgley has revealed he asked for fewer sex scenes in the final season of Netflix’s Hit You.

The 36-year-old actor made the decision out of respect for his wife Domino Kirke, with whom he shares 24-month-old son James.

On his Podcrushed podcast, Penn told co-host Nava Kavelin, “I asked [showrunner] Sera Gamble, I just can’t do any more intimacy scenes.”

The series follows Penn’s serial killer Joe Goldberg and his obsession with women and has featured many violent scenes in recent seasons.

He said: “It’s actually a decision I made before I did the show. I don’t think I ever mentioned it publicly. One of the main things was, do I want to go back to a career path where I always play the romantic lead?’

“Faithfulness in every relationship, including my marriage, is important to me. It’s gotten to a point where I don’t want it anymore.”

The former Gossip Girl actor continued, “So I said, ‘My desire will be zero, from 100 to zero.’

“But I signed this contract. I signed up for this show. i know what i did This aspect cannot be deduced from the DNA of the concept. So how much less can you make of it, was my question to her.

She didn’t even blink. She was very happy that I was so honest. She was almost, I want to say empowered, it had a very positive response. They came back with a phenomenal reduction.’

Penn married the singer in 2017 in two separate ceremonies attended by celebrity friends Debra Messing, Mariska Hargitay and Zac Posen.

He previously dated Blake Lively and Zoe Kravitz. Domino has a child from a previous relationship.

In season four, the action moves to London and Penn had a “great time” filming in the UK last year, despite being separated from his young family.

He told BBC Newsbeat: “I haven’t been able to be with my family as much as I would like.

Otherwise it was a good time, I still remember it well. I really like the culture there.

“My wife is British, she was born and raised there until she was a teenager, so I really enjoyed it.”

The trailer for the fourth season shows Penn’s cutthroat character getting a taste of his own medicine from a vengeful serial killer while trying to keep a low profile under a new identity.

After killing 10 people over the past three seasons, Joe can’t escape his past when he catches the attention of a murder dubbed the “Eat the Rich Killer.”

With his move to London and his new life as Professor Jonathan Moore, Joe grapples with a new grief, which he ominously describes as “the catalyst for a new path.”

The trailer for the hit Netflix series opens with Joe flashing back to his ex Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) and telling him he’s a “murderer.”

“You are wrong about me,” he replied. “I’ll prove it to you.”

Later, footage comes to him in a black tuxedo as he discovers that “laying low is absolutely essential” to his ability to survive.

“Apparently teaching is fun and London isn’t that bad,” he notes. “I came into contact with the craziest, most damaged people on the planet. A circle of privileged fools,’

Despite fulfillment in his career, Joe admits he wishes he had “somebody” as he stares longingly at a neighbor from his window.

Fighting the urge to recover, Joe finally asks why “the universe” keeps mocking him about beautiful women.

But just when he finally feels comfortable, Joe receives a text from an unknown number saying: “Nice jacket. Brown is your color.”

“I ran away, but one of you is watching me,” he thought to himself as he tried to figure out who was following him.

“One of you is hiding in plain sight, so who is it?” he wonders. “I just want my little European vacation back.”

In September, Joe said in a new preview that he’s “not the pleasant bookstore manager in New York” or the loving man in the suburbs.

“I went through a bit of refinement crossing the pond,” he persisted, sipping from a cup of tea. “And living in London allowed me to bury the past, if you will.”

“The days of unrequited love and longing are over,” he says when Marienne, who has successfully escaped his death grip in the past, appears on screen.

He promises audiences that he is focused on his work as a professor, although one image shows him standing eerily over the shoulder of a new character named Kate (Amy-Leigh Hickman).

Other new characters appear on screen, including his colleague Rhys (Ed Speleers), who also turns out to be a professor, and Nadia (Charlotte Ritchie).

“Unfortunately, when friends are in high places, there are usually others trying to climb that social ladder,” he adds, as party animal Adam (Lukas Gage) and Lady Phoebe (Tilly Keeper) dance together. “Some will eventually fall or, shall I say, be driven to social death.”

“The question is: by whom?” he says, hinting that he may not be as committed to his teachings as he claims.

A bunch of new stars of the show, including Connie (Dario Coates), Blessing (Ozioma Whenu), Sophie (Niccy Lin), Simon (Aidan Cheng) and Gemma (Eve Austin), walk through the crowded, dark apartment.

Marienne finally seems to recognize Joe, though no one else does, and he quickly turns and walks away.
