Colin Farrell has already had a great year and has his first Oscar nomination for best actor as Padraic The Banshees of Inishsherin for which he was also nominated for two SAG Awards, a BAFTA, won his second Golden Globe, the Volpi Cup in Venice and won several critics’ awards, including New York, Boston, National Society Of Film Critics, National Board Of Review and many others. It comes after a busy 2022 during which he appeared in four major films, including as The Penguin in The dough (for which his remarkable transformation also received an Oscar nomination for makeup and hairstyling); by Ron Howard Thirteen lives in which he plays real-life diving hero John Volenthen; and the celebrated To Yang. Can we say versatile?

Plus, as he tells me in our interview for this week’s edition of my Deadline video series The actor’s side He is about to produce the new HBO Max series The Penguin in which he will continue to explore the many sides of this DC Universe villain.

The Dublin-born actor has been a huge star since breaking through at the turn of the century in the 2000s. tiger country followed by a career that for Steven Spielberg (minority report), Oliver Stone (Alexander), Michael Mann, Tim Burton, Woody Allen, Peter Weir, Yorgas Lathimos and so on. He talks about those experiences, his regrets, his favorites, who he brings to the Oscars and why he keeps coming back to work. Banshees Writer/director Martin McDonagh, for whom he starred in 2008 in Bruges, and later years 2012 Seven psychopaths. McDonagh actually wrote Banshees as a reunion for Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, despite the fact that they are completely different characters than the assassins they played in In Bruges. It also represents a return to his roots by filming in his native Ireland.
