And Ryan Reynolds showed his commitment to the team on Sunday as he arrived ahead of the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round match between Wrexham and Sheffield United at the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham, Wales.

The 46-year-old Hollywood star gracefully signed autographs for the waiting fans before kick-off.

Ryan wore a khaki green Canada Goose jacket over a beige knit sweater.

He was seen posing for pictures with the screaming crowd before speaking to BBC Sport’s Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Mark Hughes.

His appearance at the game comes after he donated £1,600 to the Wrexham children’s football team to buy a new shirt.

The actor made the surprise donation via a GoFundMe page set up by Kayleigh Barton, whose son Keegan, 11, plays for FC United of Wrexham’s under-12 side.

She originally asked for £480 for the uniforms so the boys could compete “because they work so hard”.

Kayleigh told Sky News: “I was almost in tears. I know how much this money means to the club and to the boys. Happy is an understatement.”

She told BBC Breakfast: “I went on and there was Ryan Reynolds standing there and I just said ‘Oh my god’, I started shaking, I just couldn’t believe it.”

Ryan first donated £600, followed by a further £1000 and messaged team founder Andrew Ruscoe to say “Enjoy the new kits!”

Andrew told local newspaper The Leader that he asked the actor to retweet the campaign for the fundraiser but did not expect to donate himself.

The team responded with a video of several guys from the team and an announcement that the Deadpool logo would be placed on the sleeves of the new jersey as a “token of appreciation”.

This isn’t the first time Ryan has made headlines by reaching out to fans in need.

Last year he and Rob jointly donated £10,000 to a fundraiser after a player’s son was stillborn.

The star of comic book films such as Deadpool and Green Lantern made headlines last year when he bought the modest Welsh football team with fellow actor Rob in late 2020.

Their takeover and the team’s subsequent promotion to the fifth tier was the subject of popular docu-series Welcome to Wrexham, the latest in a booming trend of behind-the-scenes sports documentaries.
