After a serious problem after undergoing several surgeries, Brendan Fraser was unable to shoot the action scenes that had characterized his career, and with it his physique changed. Now, after the experience that ‘The Whale’ left him, the star of ‘The Mummy’ doesn’t want to lose weight to be in the shape required for big Hollywood roles.

In an interview for The Telegraph (via FandomWire), Brendan Fraser has said he has no interest in losing weight: “I mean, I’m older now; I don’t see myself the way I did in those days, and I don’t necessarily want to. But I’ve made peace with who I am now. And I’m glad that the work I have to do is rooted in an emotional reality that isn’t my life, but it’s a reality that I can strongly identify with.”

The actor was pondering the roles that brought him success during the first half of his career, however, now Brendan Fraser thinks those documents are standard “unrealisticfrom what is commonly seen in Hollywood. “It made sense that I should look like this if all they gave me to wear was a collar. [una referencia a George in the Jungle]”.

The protagonist of ‘The Mummy’ does not want to lose weight at 54 years old, and it is partly because of what he has learned from ‘The Whale’, the new film by Darren Aronofksy and A24, in which he brings to life Charlie, an online professor who has obesity, and seeks redemption with his daughter, played by Sadie Sink from Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’. With this film, Fraser earned his first Oscar nomination.

Brendan Fraser criticized for ‘The Whale’

Like the rest of Darren Aronofksy’s films, ‘The Whale’ has been met with mixed reviews from people who have already seen it. Between those who say this is a fat-phobic story and that Brendan Fraser shouldn’t have played a queer, overweight person, and those who are moved by everything that happens with the storyline

Indeed, in several specialized media, “The Whale” has had mediocre ratings, ranging from 60% ratings, and recommended stamps. What is certain is that it is a film that will not leave you indifferent with its story, and will become one of the most talked about awards of the season.

‘The Whale’ starring Brendan Fraser opens February 9 in cinemas in Mexico and worldwide. While the Oscars 2023 will be held on March 12, and will serve as a small prelude to find out if Fraser deserves the statuette, and how he will define the rest of the roles in his new stage as an actor.
