The dress code for extravagant fashion for 2023 is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, a tribute to the late fashion designer, Vogue has announced.
The Met Gala, which takes place on May 1 at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City, will be co-chaired by Penelope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer and Dua Lipa, along with Anna Wintour.

Vogue magazine announced the news on Wednesday morning via its social media and website, writing on Instagram: “This year’s #MetGala – benefiting the @metcostumeinstitute of the @metmuseum – takes place on May 1st and will be one of the biggest ever. fashion talents: Karl Lagerfeld.’
The store added that the 2023 theme will be “in honor of Karl”.
Karl died on February 19, 2019 at the age of 85 from complications of pancreatic cancer.
The fashion designer was the creative designer for both Chanel, Fendi and his own label.
He has also collaborated with Chloe, Patou and Balmain during his modeling career.
On its website, Vogue gave some styling tips to the lucky couple invited to attend this year’s Met Gala and shared a list of “approaches” they can take when it comes to paying tribute to Karl.
“The first, most authentic approach would be to wear an archive look from one of the labels Lagerfeld wore,” it suggested.
“The second would be to wear modern Chanel or Fendi, two houses where Lagerfeld left an indelible mark.”
The final recommendation was that guests should find their own version of Karl’s beloved cat, Choupette, and “dress a la Lagerfeld.”
Karl was born in Hamburg and moved to Paris in 1953.
He won an International Wool Secretariat competition in the coat category for his designer, along with Yves Saint Laurent, who won in the dress category.
