Filming has begun on the highly anticipated Amy Winehouse biopic Back To Black.
British actress Marisa Abela transformed into the late singer, dressed in Amy’s iconic black beehive, for filming in central London on Monday.
Marisa grabbed the arm of actor Eddie Marsan, who plays Amy’s father Mitch, as they filmed scenes outside the famous jazz club Ronnie Scott’s, where the singer performed early in her career.

Dressed for the scenes in a black leather jacket and mini dress, Marisa carried a leather bag and sported Amy’s signature hairdo and gold hoop earrings.
With graceful, winged eyebrows, the actress was the spitting image of the tragic singer, who died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 aged 27.
Eddie joined her on set, best known for his role in Happy-Go-Lucky and more recently the 2022 drama The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe.

The two crossed arms as the cameras rolled in front of Ronnie Scott, a known haunt of Amy’s.
Amy recalled in a 2006 interview with Camden New Journal that her grandmother once dated musician Ronnie, explaining, “After he died, we went over there to do a gig.”
“I sang a tune – and I don’t care if people talk, I actually like it when people talk because it gives me a chance to blend into the band and my dad was in the audience. ‘

Marisa, best known for her role in BBC and HBO drama Industry, will star in the Barbie movie, due out in July 2023.

The singer struggled with alcohol and drug abuse throughout her career and died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of just 27.
A24’s 2015 documentary Amy won the Oscar for Best Documentary, although it will be the first biopic covering her life, although other versions have been in the works.
In 2015, it was announced that Noomi Rapace had signed on to star in a Lotus Entertainment Winehouse biopic.

Kristen Sheridan, daughter of “In America” director Jim Sheridan, was set to direct and write the script, but never moved forward.
Then, in October 2018, it was announced that the Winehouse family had signed a deal with Monumental Pictures for a biopic.
Kinky Boots writer Geoff Deane was brought in to write the script, while Alison Owen and Debra Hayward produced.
Four years later, the project moved to StudioCanal with Taylor-Johnson, although both Owen and Hayward remain as producers, along with Tracey Seaward.
The project is being carried out with the “full support” of the Winehouse winery.
Taylor-Johnson began her career as a music video director, with credits including Elton John’s I Want Love and The Weeknd’s Earned It.
She made her film debut in 2015 with Fifty Shades of Gray and went on to direct A Million Little Pieces and two episodes of Amazon’s Solos.
