He’s been promoting the film since its world premiere at Cannes in May and even before that, and now he’s even mulling future plans to expand the musical numbers in a special edition sometime in the future. When he makes a film, directs a TV series, directs an opera, works on and records music, or in the theater, he gives his all. Exactly 30 years have passed since his first film, Ballroom only. He joins me for this week’s edition of my Deadline video series, Behind the lens and talk about them all and more. One of our themes is the series of unforgettable parties he headlined at Cannes, his association with the multi-Tony Award-winning stage production of Moulin Rouge, how he somehow personally identifies with Jay Gatsby, and the new streaming version of his epic movie starring Hugh Jackman/Nicole Kidman Australia which he reduced to six episodes, creating a whole new experience of the film that he says failed in America, but still remains his biggest hit of all time in Europe.
Luhrmann is truly one of a kind in the entertainment world and we cover the coastline of a remarkable career in our talk, which you can watch by clicking the link above.
Join me every Friday during Oscar season for another installment of Behind the lens.
