When asked about the rumours, he revealed the two were more than just good friends at the time, explaining: “I mean, normal people don’t hold hands when they’re just friends.”

Meanwhile, Ellie admitted to having a relationship with Niall Horan in 2015, but insisted in an interview with Elle that she had never dated Ed.

“I find it so frustrating that female musicians are constantly defined by the men they have or haven’t dated. I talked about it a lot with Taylor (Swift). She definitely feels it.
