Victoria Derbyshire has announced that she married her long-term partner Mark Sandell because they wanted to have a “big party” after their battle with breast cancer.
The 54-year-old Newsnight presenter gushed about her radio producer Beau, saying he was “amazing” during her illness.
Victoria, now embracing her fifties, is also hoping to qualify for the latest series of Strictly or Dancing.

The couple, who share sons Oliver (18) and Joe (15), married in 2018 after the TV presenter’s doctor gave the all-clear.
After 301 days of treatment, which included six chemotherapy and 30 radiotherapy sessions, the mother-of-two gave up all the time with an 11 per cent chance of the cancer returning.
She told Woman & Home: “Mark has completely moved on. He was amazing. He did everything to take care of me and the boys.

“We got married after I got everything safe. We wanted to have a big party and celebrate with our sons, Mark’s daughter – my stepdaughter Lizzie – and our family and friends.’ It was great,’
She went on to reveal that her secret to a happy relationship was laughter: “Mark is really funny and it’s just a joy.”

She continued to discuss the death of Dame Deborah James who sadly lost her own battle with cancer in June 2022 aged just 40.
“The day she [Deborah] died, my mom texted me and said, ‘Vic, I love you so much, I really feel for Deborah’s family.’ Because I was happy’.
“None of us know how long we have left, so I want to have incredible life experiences and enjoy them.”

One thing she hopes to try is showing off her stuff for the Glitterball trophy as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.
She said: “If I was asked to do it strictly – which I honestly don’t believe – I would absolutely consider it. I’m not sure it’s the right thing because I do Newsnight.”
“But hey, I’m a celebrity … two years ago, and now I’m doing Newsnight and people are cool with it. People are less likely to label you these days. ‘

She then spoke about getting older, saying she was “pushing her fifties now”.
“My sister had a 50th birthday party in August and she had a board with pictures of us when we were younger and my god I looked ridiculous!”
She laughed: “No fashion sense and stupid makeup. I hope I’ve learned to look less stupid and more elegant.”
