The singer was fascinated by the story of contestant Aleisha Gam while recounting her mother’s battle with cancer.
“My mom fought cancer for two years…”, 26-year-old Aleisha told coaches in her song that she hopes her mom “feels my love”.

“I know what it’s like to have that kind of connection with a song, and then that memory will always stay in that song,” Rita began.
“My mother, she also had cancer. When she was about to be treated and she lost her hair, we were kind of like teenagers.
“It was really weird seeing your mom, like, not being the superhero you always thought your mom would be…
“Why don’t you think your parents are going to collapse right in front of you, you know what I mean?”
Then he added: “And then you have to put them together a bit… I can’t even speak.”
