Brad Pitt stepped out at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain on Monday to promote his new film, wearing a bright orange backwards baseball cap and a khaki jacket.
The 62-year-old actor was seen leaving his hotel and getting into a car, waving from the window to fans who had gathered to see him.
Pitt, who starred in the 1999 film "Fight Club," is in the city for the 74th edition of the international film festival to promote his upcoming survival thriller, "Heart Of The Beast."
The annual festival, held in the Basque Country of Spain, is one of the most prominent film events in Europe.
The synopsis for the new film describes a former special forces soldier who survives a plane crash and becomes trapped in the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness with his combat dog. The characters must battle the elements and local animals in the harsh landscape.
The actor arrived at the festival the previous day, when crowds lined the streets to get a glimpse of the Hollywood star heading to the Maria Cristina Hotel.
His appearance follows a Daily Mail report in which friends of the actor spoke about his past relationship with Angelina Jolie.
A source close to Pitt claimed that his marriage to Jolie sent his life spiraling, describing it as the worst thing that ever happened to him.
"He never had a drink problem, he had an Angelina problem," the source told the publication. "He's worked hard on himself and he's now, finally, in a really good place."
Divorce and family changes
Pitt and Jolie, 51, separated in September 2016 after being married for two years.
In a recent interview with L'Officiel USA published on September 9, Jolie said she is experiencing the end of a certain time in her life.
She stated that she is ready to spend more time outside of the United States and be a bit nomadic now that her youngest children, twins Vivienne and Knox, have turned 18.
Jolie listed her Los Feliz mansion for $29.85 million earlier this year.
When asked if she plans to move from Los Angeles to New York, the actress said she intends to be out of the United States more.
"I don't really plan to have a base," Jolie told the magazine. "I'd like to have a home base for my family, a place where some of the mom stuff and the family photos are. And then I'd like to be a bit nomadic for a while."
Jolie is no longer required to remain in Los Angeles to satisfy the custody agreement she had with Pitt, which stipulated that her minor children had to stay near their father until they turned 18.
Children change surnames
All six of the children Jolie shares with Pitt are now adults.
Four of them have taken legal steps to change their last names from Pitt to Jolie. This includes Maddox, 25, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and Vivienne.
The two other children, 22-year-old Pax and Knox, have not filed formal petitions for a legal name change.
While Jolie plans her travels, Pitt has increasingly made public appearances with Ines de Ramon. The 33-year-old has been his girlfriend for nearly four years.
Global expansion and travel plans
Jolie, who starred in the film "Maleficent," said she wants to continue the global expansion of her Atelier Jolie creative house.
"The hope for the Atelier was always to be global; Brazil might become the first space that we open outside of the US," she said. "The idea would be to visit the different locations around the world and meet local artists and makers."
The actress also intends to return to Cambodia for more hands-on work with her Maddox Foundation. The non-profit organization focuses on community development and conservation.
"My home in Cambodia will also be a residency a few months out of the year for Khmer culture," she explained.
Seeking connection
Jolie emphasized that her goal when traveling is to find connection and community, rather than acting as a tourist.
"I'm not somebody who vacations or shops or things like that," she said. "I envision more field work, more travel, and just being out in the world. Get my motorcycle back, get back in a plane. I don't know."
She acknowledged that she has been available for her children when they needed her, and believes they will support her decision to travel now that they are adults.
"That's definitely what my kids want," Jolie said. "They had Mom when Mom needed to be Mom. Now, they'd like me to call them from Tunisia having just landed a plane to meet with local artists. I agree that would be very nice."
