Apply the make-up base going unnoticed is one of the great challenges we face when we start the makeup routine. The target? Show off a natural yet beautiful and healthy skin. To achieve this, the makeup artist Christina Lobato recommends choosing the base based on skin needs and personal taste when choosing the type of texture or finish.
Wearing the makeup base step by step without being noticed
Oily skin:
- Cleanse with soap-free gel products that are not overly astringent. “Oily skin likes this type of gel product more because it gives the skin freshness,” says Cristina Lobato.
- Finish it off with a suitable tonic. The ones that contain glycolic acid work really well for this type of skin that accumulates more dead cells and has a larger pore.
- Moisturize with creams that hydrate the skin and help it retain moisture, but do not contain oil. It also moisturizes the eye area, a very important step so that the concealer we apply later does not crack.
- As a preparatory step to make-up, the makeup artist recommends using a shine-regulating gel on conflict areas such as: forehead, nose and chin. This step will help us regulate shine and extend the duration of the skin makeup.
- Apply foundation. Choose long-lasting foundations that contain more color pigment. Then apply powder to the conflicting areas of the face to mattify it.
Dry skin:
- Cleanse the skin with a cleansing milk.
- Fortify your skin with a toner that not only balances the skin’s pH, but also moisturizes.
- Apply a moisturizing or nourishing serum as needed.
- Hydrate with creams that are nourishing to counteract that lack of fat in the skin. It also moisturizes the eye area, a very important step so that the concealer we apply later does not crack.
- As a preparatory step to makeup, the makeup artist recommends moisturizing primers that work really well on dry skin.
- Apply a make-up base that contains a fair amount of the treatment. High coverage foundations usually don’t work well on this type of skin as they tend to absorb the hydration part, leaving only the pigment behind, this causes the foundation to crack a lot more on the skin.
Choose the perfect tool to apply the makeup base
“The perfect foundation application tool depends on personal taste and the coverage you want to achieve,” explains Lobato. In addition, you can combine two tools to make up different parts of the face. For example, make-up with a brush in the T-zone for better coverage and make-up for the rest of the face with a sponge for a more natural result.
- Flat Cut Kabuki Brushes: Perfect if you’re looking for good coverage and smooth, even skin. These types of brushes give very good coverage and polish the skin with very little product, even if we apply a light make-up base.
- Small Skunk Brushes: If you want translucent skin, the makeup artist recommends this type of skunk brush because they give a very natural and subtle look to the face, as if it were a little frosting. They are perfect brushes for very mature skin or for very young skin that just wants to unify the skin tone.
- Beauty Blender type sponges: The best option if you want super-natural and hyper-translucent skin with a minimalistic or second-skin finish.
Expert tip: Combine the two brushes for a professional finish. Make up the face with the kabuki brush, then blend with the skunk to buff and remove the excess foundation we left with the first brush.
Perform these moves for a professional finish
- With the flat-cut kabuki brush we give small details.
- With the skunk brush we make semi-circular movements, stroking the skin in a very soft and polished way.
- With the sponge we pat and give small, very soft touches, without pressing, we make very gentle movements to deposit the product on the skin.
