Cosmetics cannot “work” for various reasons. The first and most important of these is the wrong choice of care products. We wrote here about why skin type should be the main guide when choosing cosmetics. Another common cause is improper home care. Together with beauty blogger, author of skin care courses and Korean cosmetologist Svetlana Son, we identified common mistakes that can negatively affect skin condition.

washing your face with very cold or hot water

The optimum water temperature for washing is 30-36°C. Too cold does not dissolve cosmetics residue and skin sebum and can dry out the skin. And very hot water – it upsets the pH balance. Therefore, it is important to ensure that the temperature is average, comfortable for the skin.
Do not clean the skin in two stages

The first step towards healthy skin is a two-step cleanse. Remove foundation, heavy powder, and sunscreen with hydrophilic oil, micellar water, or a two-phase product. The next mandatory step should be a delicate cleaning with foam or gel. This will remove the make-up residues and the subsequent products will penetrate deeper into the skin.
foaming face wash

Before cleaning the facial skin, the washing gel or foam should be lathered in your hands. If you do this immediately on the skin of the face, you can upset the pH balance, since the surfactants in the composition of the products destroy the protective barrier.
Rarely change towels or use for face and hands

Ideally, the face towel should be changed daily. If you use the same for a long time, bacteria will accumulate on it, which can cause redness or other skin problems. One solution might be to switch to disposable paper towels.
Ignore the toning step

Tonic is the last step of cleansing. After alkaline foam and hard water, it restores the pH balance of the skin, moisturizes and tones it and improves the penetration of further care. Here’s how to choose the right toner for your skin’s needs. And by the way, tonic pads or toner pads are ideal for the holidays – a jar will replace tonic and cotton pads.
Do you think the Korean skincare system is overloading the skin?

In fact, the main purpose of Korean skin care is the gradual hydration of the skin. And this is the key to beauty, youth and skin health. Remember the basic rule not to confuse the order of applying funds – apply them from the lightest consistency to the most dense.
Don’t use sheet masks

Unbelievable, but real sheet masks can not only be cooled, but also heated. And by the way, Koreans do just that. A warm mask not only feels better on the skin, but also allows the essence to penetrate deeper.
Combining incompatible components

Due to the wrong combination of products with each other, the skin condition may worsen or there may be a feeling that the care is “not working”. Therefore, it is important to know which components are compatible with each other and which are incompatible. For example, acidic products cannot be used with vitamin C, retinol and peptides. And in combination with retinol, it is not recommended to combine cosmetics with vitamin C and salicylic acid. Examples of ideal combinations:
– Vitamin E + Vitamin C = protection against sun damage;
– niacinamide + salicylic acid = fight inflammation;
– retinol + SPF cream = anti-aging effect;
– lactic acid + PHAs = gentle exfoliation.
Changing maintenance too often

Any treatment takes some time to work. Its duration depends on the degree of skin problems and the concentration of active ingredients in the product. For example, anti-aging care will show results no earlier than in 3-6 months, and shine after 6-9 months. That’s why consistency and regularity are everything to us.
Use SPF protection only in summer

Exposure to UV rays is one of the main causes of premature skin aging. In addition, UVA type rays penetrate clouds and glass all year round, regardless of the season. That’s why SPF cream is necessary even in winter. Very dense, greasy, whitening and clogging textures are a thing of the past. Now on the cosmetic market there is a wide range of products with a light texture, for example, essences or pillows. Therefore, everyone will be able to find the perfect sun protection suitable for their skin type and needs.
